What is something that would surprise me about you?
That I work in the finance world in Private Equity… but my finance colleagues also find it surprising that I am a yoga teacher with near full body tattoos. I love throwing curveballs to people. I also am obsessed with watching Japanese Anime shows.
What can I expect from your class?
Softness, compassion and vulnerability. I love to spend a few minutes at the beginning giving a short talk and introducing a theme. And you’ll likely get me playing the handpan at some point.
What is the most essential part of practice for you?
Commitment to presence. Self-compassion. Surrender. Trust.
I guess I gave four essential parts?
Adam, a certified yoga (RYT200) and meditation (Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach MMTCP) instructor, believes that a strong commitment to a personal practice of self-discovery is essential to navigating the joys, challenges and mysteries of life. He approaches the practice with openness, humility and an attitude of surrender, and incorporates an ever-expanding variety of methods – mindful movement, meditation, breathwork, sound, self-study, and heartfelt connection being at the core. He emphasizes simplicity and a deep trust in our own awareness, and focuses on finding stillness of the mind and resting in presence.
Adam’s personal practice has been developed from years of study and training with many amazing teachers, and shaped by his experience of suffering and being in community. His lived practice and own journey of healing is the true source of his teaching.
Adam encourages students to open up to the idea of yoga being much more than just asana, the physical practice. His intention as a teacher is always to meet students where they are with compassion, patience, and an unwavering faith in their ability to grow and heal. He is known for clear and thoughtful cueing and frequently offered opportunities for mindfulness, and balances deep inquiry with simple and direct guidance. And he never underestimates the power of the breath, believing that “we are always one, good, intentional, mindful breath away from fully letting go and finding true presence and peace.”
Adam loves to bring out the joy in the practice and is passionate about creating experiences for students that are fun and memorable. You’ll often see him DJing during flows for other teachers, playing the handpan in savasana, throwing up peace signs and laughing and being silly around the studio.
